3D modeling and scanning is one of the most important stages of the modern Viktor-Art studio. We work with both realistic models, physically created and then scanned, and models digitally created from scratch. The choice of method depends on the client’s goals: sometimes a faithful replica of an existing object is paramount, sometimes the reconstruction of a missing detail, and sometimes a completely new figure designed for a specific space.
We have our own modelers and our own process for preparing models for sculpture, CNC milling, hand carving, polychrome painting, and large-scale production. This means that a 3D model is not just an attractive visualization; it’s a real production tool.
3D scanning of existing sculptures and objects
3D scanning allows us to transfer a real object into a digital form. We use it to copy sculptures, document monuments, reconstruct damaged elements, check proportions, prepare models for milling, and archive objects. We can work with ornamental details, bas-reliefs, figures, sacred elements, and larger forms.
After scanning, the data requires processing: mesh cleaning, gap closure, geometry refinement, scale preparation, component division, and model adaptation to manufacturing technology. This is a stage where the modeler’s experience is as important as the scanner itself.

Not every scan is immediately suitable for production. The model must have logical geometry, appropriate resolution, correct proportions, and technological layout. For large-scale figures, we also analyze mass, center of gravity, drilling capacity, gluing points, assembly, and subsequent manual processing.
Realistic modeling from scratch
Our in-house team of modelers allows us to create models from scratch: figures, faces, hands, garments, ornaments, cartouches, architectural elements, bas-reliefs, and custom compositions. A model can be created based on a description, sketch, reference photos, historical style, designer’s concept, or investor’s requirements.
Scratch-modeling is best when a client needs a new object that can’t be simply scanned. We can design a figure for a specific niche, altar, hall, facade, restaurant, hotel, residence, or thematic space. Already at the digital stage, we analyze proportions, detail clarity, and woodworking technology.

Physical model, scan or digital design?
We don’t impose a single method. If a client has an existing sculpture, 3D scanning may be the best place to start. If a highly realistic object is needed, we sometimes create a physical model, which we then scan and refine digitally. If the design is completely new, we model from scratch in a 3D environment.
This approach offers great flexibility. We can recreate a missing element of a monument, prepare facial variations, change the scale, adapt the figure to the architecture, verify the composition, and prepare the model for production without guesswork at the woodworking stage.
Structured light scanning technology
Structured light scanning allows for very precise reading of an object’s geometry without contact with its surface. This is important for sculptures, ornaments, and monuments, which may be delicate, polychrome, or irregular. The resulting point cloud and 3D mesh are then processed by the modeler.
The technology works well for both small details and larger objects, where the proportions and character of the original must be preserved. A well-executed scan is the beginning of the process, not the end.
3D model prepared for wood production
A model designed for wooden sculpture must take into account the limitations of the material. Thin details are designed differently, deep undercuts differently, elements intended for milling are designed differently, and sections that will be hand-finished with a chisel are designed differently. For large figures, it's necessary to consider the design of the body, gluing, hollowing, mounting, and transport.
This ensures a seamless entire process: from concept, through the digital model, to milling, carving, sanding, polychrome, and assembly. The client receives a design that is visually appealing and technically feasible.
